United Steelworkers to hold talks with oil companies

The United Steelworkers convened a National Oil Bargaining Conference wherein oil delegates attended the meeting discussing about the challenges and issues. The union is preparing for conducting a bargaining session next year that will bring up new contracts with majority of 1,700 workers at the BP Whiting Refinery.

The BP Whiting Refinery is reducing the number of headcount at the lakefront refinery situated nearby the Lake Michigan shore. It is making cuts as a part of global workforce reduction as the union is taking efforts to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy forms.

The USW Local 7-1 in Whiting will also vote to ratify the USW National Oil Policy adopted by the union.The UN is scheduled to meet with Marathon. It will held talks that will allow the oil companies negotiate upon various issues. Marathon is the largest oil refinery the US. The Royal Dutch Shell has become its biggest competitor replacing its position in the oil market.

The talks will enable the union to make new deals, benefits, and improved working conditions, and ensure safety at workplace for over 30,000 workers at the oil refinery in the United States.USW National Oil Policy is been adopted by the union that is sent to the locals of the union. The USW Local 7-1 in Whiting will also vote to ratify the USW National Oil Policy adopted by the union.
